Why on the water

There is no audience at sea. Just the two of you, the city and the light.

A proposal in a restaurant has tables next to you. A proposal on the beach has people walking past. In the middle of Guanabara Bay, the whole backdrop — Sugarloaf, Christ, the sun going down — exists only for the question. That's why we host more marriage proposals a year than any other occasion on board, and why each one is prepared as if it were the first.

The route is the same as our Sunset Tour — the Flamengo shoreline, the stop at the foot of Sugarloaf, the forts, the swim at Adão e Eva, the MAC, the sunset on the way back — but the boat is yours alone. You choose where the proposal happens. The crew makes the rest happen without the other person noticing.

What's included
  • Private sailboat with crew (skipper and host) for 3 or 5 hours
  • Bouquet of roses prepared before boarding and kept hidden until the moment of the proposal
  • A playlist chosen by you, playing on the boat's speakers at the right time
  • A professional videographer along for the trip, at no cost — in exchange for permission for DDRio to use the best footage. If you'd rather total privacy, simply don't authorise it and hire your own
  • Full onboard service: sparkling wine, caipirinha, caipivodka, beer, soft drinks, juice, water and the paired snacks
  • A swim stop (sea permitting) and a photo stop at the foot of Sugarloaf
  • Romantic décor on board if you like — we arrange the details on WhatsApp
How it happens · a real sequence from our archive

She wasn't expecting it. That's how it usually goes.

14:40Before you arrive

The bouquet and the glasses are already on board, out of sight. The crew knows the playlist and the agreed spot.

15:30The moment

At the Urca stop, with Sugarloaf alongside, the music changes. He kneels. The crew disappears.

15:31The ring

The box opens. The videographer films from a distance; nobody on board interrupts.

15:32The yes

The bouquet appears, sparkling wine is served. Two hours of afternoon still to go: the swim, the MAC, the sunset on the bow. Engaged now.

Real sequence from the DDRio archive, published with the couple's permission.

Questions everyone asks
Will she suspect?

To anyone who doesn't know, it's a sunset sailing tour — a normal thing to do on a trip. Nothing on board gives it away until the moment you choose.

Can I bring a different bouquet, or another surprise?

Yes. Specific flowers, a dessert, a wine — we'll source it and charge only the cost, no mark-up. Or you bring it and we hide it.

What if it rains?

If it rains but the sea is safe, you choose: keep, rebook or cancel, no penalty. If the sea says no, we rebook or refund everything. A proposal doesn't happen on a bad day.

How far ahead should I book?

The sooner the better, especially between December and March. But we've organised proposals with two days' notice.

How do I pay?

A 10% deposit when you book (card, PIX or PayPal); the rest on board at the end. No receipt or message reaches your partner.
